My response would be “I think we are going to have to agree to disagree. How about them Stillers?”

You do not need to respond to every thing your friends throw at you. You do not need to convert everyone, nor would you be able to do so. If this is truly a friend, let it go. If they are not, there is no need to respond at all.

Your friend draws a false equivalency between abortion (the intentional killing of an innocent person), the death penalty (the intentional killing of one who has committed an evil act), war (corporate self-defense against an aggressor) and collateral casualties of war (the unintentional death of the innocent in wartime). They are not at all equivalent.

Your friend draws a false equivalency
I was thinking the same thing when I read his reasons.

This seems to be the basis of his argument.
Why? Because the Anabaptist ideal, as I understand it, is that as followers of Jesus, we are to be as pro-life as possible in our complex world.
My question would be who gets to decide what form of measurement we get to use in coming up with the “equation” necessary to decide how one is as “pro-life” as possible.

From our view point it seems we use simple straight forward addition 1(million)+1(million) =2(million). Where as it seems he wants to use a complex algebraic equation 2X+3Y=4Z. Where there is no set values other than his personal “convictions” that he decides are most important for him to plug into the equation.

If someone where to use his equation and plug their own convictions into the same equation then they can come up with a counter argument to all of his convictions.

That’s the main point. You can’t just make a claim that true followers of Jesus are as “pro-life” as possible and then claim and by the way this is what it means to be as “pro-life” as possible.
> It’s based on what I have seen and heard and carefully considered.
Where does Jesus say morals are based on our own personal beliefs?

_
it’s easy to forget that Jesus said the greatest commandments are to love God and each other. I wish we loved enough to stop demonizing: “Pro-life Christian voters
_

This one made me scratch my head. Seriously, he thinks it’s easy to forget that we shouldn’t demonize others but he has no problems forgetting we shouldn’t murder babies in the womb. Yet another "false equivalency.

God Bless

This annoys me. You don’t get to take a term “pro-life” and define it however you want to put yourself in the moral right.

It’s like atheists who say that humans are immortal bc “your life ripples throughout the universe forever”

Cecelia, if you can’t still get the article, I will copy it for you. Please let me know. I get tired of the we are only “probirth” rhetoric. I find it maddening. I do want to respond. I just want to have a thoughtful, well layout reply. I appreciate everyone’s responses!

How do you want to respond?

I see this as someone’s reasoning on how they decide to vote. I’m not sure what you’re wanting to responding to. Do you disagree with their line of reasoning or their religious beliefs?
I get tired of the we are only “probirth” rhetoric
I don’t know what this ^ means.

There are many, many people who are against abortion who choose to vote for candidates of various parties. This does not make the people “pro choice”, it makes them informed voters who are using the USCCB guidance to look a proportionate reasons.

Rather than “the santcity of life” or “it’s a human argument” I opt for the more graphic- "can you face the almighty knowing you defended ripping infants out of yourself or somebody else under the guise of a right?’ This cuts through all the philosophical arguments that many are not prepared to hear.

The best thing a non-committal biological father can hear is “I want nothing to do with him”. Odd that we either expect the government or a church to support a child if the father puts themself out of the picture (jail excepted) You are correct; even project Rachael does post abortion healing.

Something that bothered me tremendously was seeing FB posts between her and a former coworker. Reminiscing about how when they would find a bug in the office, they held an adamant catch and release outside belief system. I remember how angry they were at people who went hunting. I couldn’t help thinking about how important it was to save the life of a spider, but they had completely different opinions regarding the life of an unborn child. I can’t understand this view.

It appears that they like things they can control. Having that view of a child would have them see it as an equal; therefore beyond their control. In the 60’s I went to school as the term “zero population growth” advented. We were taught how their would be such a population explosion in the US in 25 years that we would have to build on the water. This did not happen, and anybody who has overflown the US can see all the space we have. Unemployment at 2% attests to us not being overly populated.

If one truly believes that life begins at conception and ending abortion is saving lives then, as it stands, it becomes obvious that we should not vote for any candidate other than republican.
