I have a question that I have always wondered about. Is it a sin not to say anything when you notice a small mistake in your check at a restaurant? I am the type of person who usually remembers the prices from the menu. It is amazing how many times the waiter or waitress just can’t get it right. Usually, I point it out, even if it costs me money. Sometimes, however, when the waiter or waitress seems especially busy, I just let it go.

I wouldn’t have thought so, I reckon you’ll be alright on this one Listener!
😉

I always look at it this way if I am overcharged would I say something? So if I am undercharged I should say something.

How quickly I run back to the store if all the things I paid for are not in my bag, so yes if I leave something in the cart I will bring it back into the store.

SIn possibly venial but am unsure if your answer to the first question is yes, busy or not then yes I do believe that would then make it a venial sin.

I would say something to the server/person who made the check… but not to the cashier or manager. Because I wouldn’t want to get them in trouble. If I were overcharged enough to matter (and everyone has a different level of tolerance for this sort of thing… I’ve seen people get fiesty over a nickle. It would probably have to be close to a dollar before I even cared) then I supppose I’d try to get the server, first, and if unable to, then the cashier or whomever.

I work in a restaurant with computerized checks.

This just happened to me the other day. The waitress did not charge us for drinks. I pointed that out, but she said it was okay and let it go. It may have been a manager decision because of the “long” waits for a table. If nothing else, I would like to know there are honest people in the world, so I try to do the same.

I was a waitress for a couple of years. If I made a mistake on someone’s bill I would want them to point it out to me. I would not be offended. If I was overcharged or undercharged I would have no problem pointing it out. It is nothing to make a big deal over, everyone makes mistakes!
