My question relates to the types of jobs in retail that a Catholic can accept in good conscience. Often, in otherwise wholesome variety stores there are some sinful items, or else items from companies that fund Planned Parenthood or another arm of the abortion industry. I was thinking of working in a sports clothing store part time, but the store likely sells some goods related to boxing, or else goods produced by companies that donate to PP. What would be the moral implications here?

I think you’re getting scrupulous. It’s not a problem to work for a business or store that sells something that is contrary to the Catholic church. You’ll never be able to work anywhere but the parish office.

Just don’t buy the products that you think are immoral or are related to immoral charities.

I’ve never seen so many Girl Scout cookies as I saw this year at my parish. I didn’t notice that anyone had a problem with it.

Also, my mother’s pharmacist co-worker was a devout Catholic, but he worked on Sundays and sold birth control pills, etc. because he had to earn a living, eat and send his children to the parish school. It was his JOB! He and his wife did not use contraception which is what is most important.

Maybe some jobs should not be done by Catholics. About the only time I agreed with our last bishop was when he said that if the job is a sin you have to quit.

I’ll have to disagree with you and the bishop. So much good is done by pharmacists. The birth control pills were a very, very insignificant part of the job. On top of that, he had four children to support when the Pill hit the market. It’s not realistic to look for another profession at that level for that reason.

What?
What’s wrong with boxing? Please fill me in, I’m a pugilist.
😃

Maybe being a clerk/salesperson in a Catholic goods/book store is a safe bet!

If a person wished to look deep enough, of course, does the paper company or timber company that makes the paper, do this or that.

Is that ink pen made in China by slave labor.

Do you shop at stores like walmart or get your child a happy meal toy.

Do you buy gasoline made by Muslims who are against Christians.

You could end up living in a cave as a hermit or you have to work and live in the world. That is what jesus did, he lived in a sinful world, he taught in the temples and in the fields.

Ditto. Outside of the ring I’m a pacifist. Pass a fist here, pass a fist there. No seriously… I’m curious, what’s wrong with boxing?

emp.
