I was wondering if anyone has any book or guide suggestions for retreat attendees to read and meet to study during a “follow-up” phase. Any thoughts or ideas would be greatly appreciated. I don’t think it can be too deep because many of the retreatants are at different levels in their spiritual journey.
Thank you!

What sort of retreat is it?

Catholic spirituality culminates in our worship of God so how about starting at the center, Jesus.

I would suggest a book which talks about Catholic worship. Since this is the most central part of our week, when we go to receive Jesus and participate in worshipping God. Maybe it will get people to go more than once a week?

Most any good book on the Mass will do, some range from very technical to more contemporary.

Here are some suggestions, in price order from highest to lowest.

The Lambs Supper, Scott Hahn

Or

In the Presence of our Lord, Fr Benedict Groeschel

Or

Jesus, Our Eucharist Love, Fr Stefano Manelli

You can shop for those books with free shipping here

it depends on what was the focus of the retreat, who were the participants, it sounds like it was the type of retreat where someone gives presentations, what was the topic? Did the presenter give any suggestions?

Begin with the written material, including scripture quotes, used by the presenter. If he cited any spiritual writers, go to their books. Meditate upon the scriptures suggested for the retreat.

Anything by Fr. Groeschel will be excellent, readable and accessible.

One book I found a very interesting read, and very inspiring is Jeff Cavin’s “I’m Not Being Fed”, Discovering the Food that Satisfies the Soul, Ascension Press, 2005. It is the autobiography of a young Catholic man who fell in love with Jesus and wandered away from the Church searching for Him, only to find Him in the very Church where he left Him so many years before. Although backed by scripture and solid Catholic teaching, it is not too complicated for the average layperson. It is also highly recommended for folks you know who say “I’m not being fed” at mass anymore. If you love them, buy it for them right away, don’t wait.

Peace
