I love combining a vacation away from home (Chicago) with a spiritual retreat, preferably a place offering a chance for some outdoor meandering. Two wonderful places I’ve been: Holy Name Retreat House on Chambers Island in Green Bay and Gethsemani Abbey in Kentucky.

Any suggestions for other spots in N. America or around the globe?

I suggest that you go to Catholic familyland on any of their week long or weekend retreats. Just call them at 1800FORMARY. I also will give out the web address again www.familyland.org

I will be attending their Holy Family Fest this week. We are driving up there on Wednesday. It is a grace filled place. There is about 600 acres of land up there. The Apostolate for Family Consecration runs the place. There is so much to do and to see out there. I especially am looking forward to the horseback riding. Also the Shroud of Turin exibit I hear is really great. There is confession and daily mass. Really great Catholic speakers and singers show up too for the entertainment.

I really have talked a lot about this place on this forum, so I am trying to give you just an idea. I hope to see you there someday. God bless you.

Thanks Sonya! I have no children, but I’ll talk it up to my friends with families.

You don’t have to have children. They have a lot of different types of retreats and campouts. You can go to anything without having children. They have a Totus Tuus conference and silent retreats that are only a weekend long, but full of spiritual nourishment. Just call and find out more. You won’t be sorry.
