I have a 14 month old daughter and still have not had a return of my cycle since her birth. My husband and I practiced NFP before her birth. Is it common to have a return of fertility without a cycle? I think I noticed some very obvious CM, but I have still not had my period. Thanks!

Yes, you can certainly get pregnant with out having a period, and it is common. If your body starts the ovulation process and you have relations at the right time, you certainly won’t get your period for at least 9 more months! There are a few ladies on the boards who haven’t had a period in a long time due to getting pregnant when their fertility returns.

Yes without a DOUBT!
After ALL 3 of my children I have ovulated BEFORE having my first postpartum period.
(I also have breastfed my babies exclusively for extended time frames)…

What kind of NFP are you using? Are you charting?
I use the sympto-thermal method, and chart my cervical mucous, cervical position (which I find to be the most useful sign postpartum), and my temperature (which is a *secondary *sign to the mucous and cervical position).

HTH and please feel free to ask any more questions! 🙂

We have been using the Sympto-Thermal method. I have not been charting b/c I was not having any signs of fertility and my daughter is still breastfeeding quite frequently at 14 months. I thought that I noticed CM and DH and I had relations, so I didn’t know if there was a possibility of conception? I would actually be quite excited for that outcome!! 😉

Could be!!! 😃 😃 😃
Just to let you know, though… if you are using Ecological Breastfeeding, it’s only useful in avoiding conception (statistically, if you follow ALL the rules) up until 6 months - after that you can still have your cycle return while BF’ing (mine has 3 times) - so if you *needed *to avoid, you’d need to start charting after 6 months… just fyi… 😉

Let us know if things work out for you! 😃

I think I read that a third of women ovulate prior to their first menstruation in one of Sheila Kippley’s books.
