Returning Library Books

Would it be a sin to return a library book that may have content that could cause the reader to sin? For example, the books makes a few attacks at religion, the church, etc.?
Of course, the subject of theft will probably arise, but don’t most libraries allow you to pay for books? Couldn’t one just do that?
 
it is not your book, return it, you are not responsibl for those who wrote it, those who purchased it, or those who read it. what will be much more effective is complaining in writing to the library board if they are circulating books that attack the Church–as in attack, not as in, state positions differing from Catholic belief.

Keeping the book is a sin since you are stealing. Return the book. You never know people such as myself who read books like that to understand what people are saying against the church may want it for witnessing reasons.

If you are offended by the book, write a letter to the library about it. But for heaven’s sake don’t steal it.
 
There is no “banned book list”, so why do you feel it is necessary to take that burden upon yourself?

Censorship is horrible, no matter who is doing the censoring.

Return the book.
 
While I am not against limited censorship, those who would do it, if it were done, would be the appropriate authorities, of which you are not one.

In dealing with the library you might, esp if you have friends who will coordinate with you, request counter-balancing books. I mean, I am not sure if you are talking about a book like Hitler’s Pope, which is just full of bad information, and in my suggestion you would suggest a book which has the truth. Maybe you are just talking about a book with too much vivie and approving description of sinful behavior, in which case you might mention it, but since they base what they get on what people take out, it probably won’t do any good.

But you can still request better books. I just asked them to get a sequel to Tarzan via interlibrary loan, and they bought it 🙂 Of course ILL is pricey and the book they bought was not, so that may have been why, but they did buy a couple of others in the same way because more than one person requested it for ILL
 
Return the book, it does not belong to you and it is not your place to judge what content of it will cause another to sin.

You realize if you “buy” the book, they take that money and replace the book?

Just return it. It isn’t yours.
