Not certain if this is where to post. I have not been a practicing Catholic for about 20 years. Before moving to where I live now, I lived in a small town and was part of an active parish. I had good friends at church and felt a part of the church. The parish near where I live is rather large and I found to be impersonal. As a single person I never found a place in the church. Recently I started going to mass now and then. Now I find that I am ready to return to church and grow in my faith. I need some help to get started, I am off this week and was thinking of going to some of the Holy Week services and maybe confession. I need some guidance. Anyone have advice or suggestions?
Great to hear that you will be returning and that you are anxious to grow in your faith. I have a good Church to suggest in your area. Hopefully it is near you.
Immaculate Conception Church
Location: 4129 Superior Ave – Cleveland, OH 44103
Mass Time: Sun 8 am & noon
Phone number: (216) 431-5900
I would recommend calling the Priest and expressing to him what you did to us here, and asking if you can make an appointment for a general confession. It will make the Priest’s day to hear of your returning to the Church; and the Priest at the Church I mentioned above is excellent.
The Sunday after Easter is a special day of the year. It is known as Divine Mercy Sunday. On this day, if you go to confession and communion you will receive, what is known as, a plenary indulgence. The effect of this is that your soul will be perfectly purified from all sin and all “temporal punishment” due to sin. The effect is similar to Baptism. If you can take advantage of this it will be a great boost for your spiritual life.
I would also recommend some good spiritual reading, such as
My Daily Bread. This is a very good little book. It is easy to understand, yet deep, and should help you with your spiritial life. If you click
here it will take you to a link where you can order it.
Keep us posted on how things work out.
