THE WOMEN AND THE DRAGON

hello people i was reading the bible and i started to read this small bit.

it starts by telling us that John saw the holy Mary then he saw a red dragon in front of her. She gave birth to a son and the dragon tried to eat the new born. but the child was snatched away and taken to God and the women fled to the dessert for 1260 days. then it goes on to say there was a war in heaven and that satan was thrown in the earth then it goes on to say he went after the women in the dessert and poured out a flood of water toward her but the earth opens it mouth and swallowed the water.

My question is Did this happen before adam and eve, is this going to happen in the furture or is it talking about both the past and the furture.
  • the reason i ask is because the war in heaven happened before adam and eve
    was created
  • I would say seconde Mary gave birth to Jesus and fled to the dessert so that he would not be killed by Herod
  • It seems to me that the holy Mary in the furture will be attacked by the devil but mary is protected by God and he would allow nothing to happen to her so the devil’s plans failed
Or am i completly wrong in my thinking.

you are correct. the war in heaven already happended and the dragon trying to kill the child (jesus) is the devils attempt to stop our salvation. mary will not be attacked in the future by satan for she is with God.

Prophetic language generally has multiple layers of meaning.

The Woman in Revelation 12 is, obviously, Our Blessed Mother Mary. She is also Israel, the Chosen People who brought forth the Messiah, and the Church, who continues to bring Him to the world.

I don’t think we can properly locate the “events” of Revelation in time. Time is a limit of the created world. Revelation gave John a glimpse of eternity - outside of time - where he saw “what has been, what is, and what is to come” - and attempted to explain it in language we trapped-in-time-and-space creatures might understand.

First, let’s recognize that this passage nowhere names Mary. It’s common to read into it references to Mary, which is fine, but we need to respect the Scripture and what John literally told us in Scripture.

Regarding timing, we don’t know. This genre of literature, apocalyptic, is characterized by talking about future events in terms of past events. It’s full of allegory and symbolism. One can read into (or out of) it just about anything you want to. So it’s important to consider what we read here in light of the entire canon of Scripture and tradition of the Church.
