I am considering an upgrade from the single-volume Christian Prayer to the 4-Volume Liturgy of the Hours. However, the leather version that I want is pretty expensive at around $200. I have heard that a revision of the English version of the Liturgy is underway. I would hate to buy it now only to have it be superseded within a couple of years.

Does anyone know the timeline for finalization of the revisions and, subsequently, for publication of revised volumes?

I apologize, I originally posted this in the Sacred Scripture forum before realizing this is probably the correct place for it.

Peace.

Years. Last speculation I read was no earlier than 2020. I’d say go ahead and buy, but the vinyl “leather-like” version.

I’m sure people will disagree, but no, I don’t go for apps.

I replied at the Sacred Scripture Forum.

It depends on your financial situation. If that’s not a major outlay (considering, for example, the cost of going out to dinner at a restaurant nowadays) it’s probably worth it.

I, too, am partial to paper! 🙂

An in Roman terms, “no earlier than” means “add at least several, if not more, years to this extremely broad estimate”

It’s not just in the US, apparently. I have been told several times that the breviary is being revised, but there is no concrete timeline for it. Nevertheless, I invested in the four-volume French LOTH (220€ new, or about US$240 at current rate of exchange, and not even leather or imitation leather bound :p) and I have no regrets, even if I were to be told tomorrow that the revision is finished and will be available in a few months. But I could afford it, and can afford to replace it when the time comes. If cost is an issue for you for whatever reason, I’d advise holding off, seeking a used set, or acquiring a version with a less expensive binding.

Rather than buy the whole set at once, you may find it easier on the wallet to buy the one for the current season, so you spread the cost over a year.

Another option would be to purchase the LOTH supplement booklet, which has all the new memorials and feast that will be included in the upcoming revision. It costs about $4.

I, on the other hand, have found iBreviary on my S5 to be most convenient. Plus, it has the readings for the day and at grunch of other prayers 😃

I find it very convienient too. It is easy to carry and I have it with me if my schedule changes

Check eBay. I bought my leather bound set for $100 and helped a friend of mine find a set for herself for $120. It is also easier to buy single volumes of the four-volume set on eBay as many stores do not sell volumes of the four-volume set separately.

We have a copy of the four-volume set here, sitting on a shelf. A former resident had it and died. If you are interested, I could speak with our administrator and see if we could send it to you. You could make a donation that you are comfortable with - or I could ask her what price she’d think is fair.

I apologize for the delay in responding. Is it the black leather set? Is it in good shape, or significantly worn? What entity would I be donating the money to? Thank you.

I hope they aren’t planning too many changes; I’m pretty heavily invested in Gregorian chant books to chant the LOTH. Since you are in France, look up “Les Heures Grégoriennes”. Pretty pricey but I use it every day for the LOTH. Also Antiphonale Romanum II from Solesmes if you’re only interested in chanting Sunday, feast and solemnity Vespers. LHG came out in 2008 and AR II in 2010.

I’ll sell you my leather set. I have a Baronius Press 1962 Breviary that I am partial to, so I am not using my leatherbound LOTH.

PM me if you’re interested and we can make arrangements. I can send you photos if you want.
