Does anyone know of a website that tells you where to put all your ribbons? For the breviary it is almost as complex but St Joseph Press puts out a guide each year that tells you where to put your ribbons. But now catholic.com send out their morning offering email each day with the entire breviary prayers so you do not even need your books any more. I hope someone tells me there is something similar for the1962 Missal.

There is no official way to set the ribbons. You set them according to what serves you best. But generally, depending on the number of ribbons—and you can supplement with bookmarks or prayer cards—you would mark off:

The Proper of Seasons (currently Third Week of Lent)
The Ordinary of the Mass
The Proper of Saints (according to the calendar date)
The Common of Saints (just keep a ribbon to mark of the section, and move it accordingly depending on the Saint being celebrated)
Prayers before Mass/Preparation for Mass/Devotions for Holy Communion
Prayers after Mass/Thanksgiving after Communion
Devotions and Prayers

Not as far as I know.

My 1962 Missal only has five ribbons, and this is how I’ve set mine up for Sunday Mass:-
Purple ribbon in the Prayers After Communion
White ribbon at The Asperges And Vidi Aquam
Red ribbon at the correct Preface (which now obviously is the Preface for Lent [up until Passion Sunday])
Green ribbon at The Sanctus
Black ribbon at The Prayers During The Ablutions
I have a large laminated prayer card which I use to mark the Mass of the Day e.g. Third Sunday in Lent (changes page for weekday Mass which usually follows in order).
I also have tab marker stickers at the start of the most necessarily prayers section + devotions for before communion

I have the Baronius Press - Summorum Pontificum Edition missal. It has 6 ribbons

I placed mine as follows:
  • 1st ribbon (Red) = Communion Prayers/Devotions. I also use it to quickly find morning prayers, Sunday Vespers, and other misc prayers
  • 2nd ribbon (Gold) = Proper of Seasons
  • 3rd ribbon (White) = Proper Prefaces
  • 4th ribbon (Purple) = Ordinary of the Mass
  • 5th ribbon (Black) = Proper of Saints
  • 6th ribbon (Green) = Supplement (aka the local calendar feasts)
I also have a few prayer cards in there in case I need a temporary book mark for Vespers or a rare situation.

(I don’t know if ribbon colors in that missal are standardized or not)

God bless

NOTE: Their emails link you to Universalis, which is NOT the approved translation for the United States

It’s fine for private prayer, but if you want to be praying the Office in union with the Church or if you are promised or obligated to pray the Hours, this does not work.

God Bless

This is a ginormous issue right now.

The official translations approved for use can be found nowhere online for free due to some copyright issues.

This is a huge problem for me because although I have my own breviary (I have the 4 volume set and I always use the books for the 7 hours), I do pray Midday in community. Some of the people that join us don’t have a breviary and don’t want to spend the money to buy the Universalis app which does provide the official translations.

It has been an absolute pain trying to find a website or even a resource that would provide it for free.

You must have so many ribbons!!

Mine just mark the proper and the ordinary and the preface. I have one marking Requiem because you never know when you’re going to need that.
