God has asked me to bring his message of peace and belief to a certain person in my life. This person does not believe in God and he is unbelievably unhappy and not at peace. Well, I know this person well and he is very hard-headed and at the moment is bitter toward me, though he denies this.

Today I talked to him about how he is finding peace (he told me he was looking for it as the number one thing he wanted in his life). He told me that he does not have peace or happiness and that it doesn’t matter. I then told him about my last six months and how I was just like him and was so bitter, sad and not at peace and that peace only came when I went back to church and prayed. Well, that set him off, as I knew it would and he ranted about how he hated churches and organized religion, etc.

I talked some more about how you will never find peace and happiness outside of yourself and that God wants you to find it inside you. For me, self-reflection only occurred in my prayers and attending church. I asked him to attend church with me and just try it. What does he have to lose? He declined as I knew he would.

But he said something I didn’t expect. He said “maybe you have the right message, but you are the wrong messenger.” I laughed and told him that God never sends the messenger we want. Ever. God uses people we never expect. Plus, if I have the right message, then I am the right messenger. He hates the messenger so he discards the entire message.

I guess I don’t understand that. God wants this person brought to him (and for the life of me I don’t know why), so I will continue to try to talk to him but Lord I’m tired.

Golly, you remind me of one of the old testament prophets… they surely got tired, too… Don’t give up. Let the holy Spirit guide your words to your friend… sometimes it takes a person time to think… let it sink in. You gave him the word. Let God work! Praying for you and your friend.

Lord, have mercy.
Christ, have mercy.
Lord, have mercy.

Yes. well said. The OP planted the seed and who knows what God can do from here.

Blessings to the OP

Mary.

Now just give things time.
Cursillo talks about evangelization in terms of a small e rather than the large E. Sometimes a person is just not ready to hear the message.
Instead of pushing simply be a friend to this person. When he ready, he will let you know that it is time to invite him to Christ.
I don’t know if it is my particular role to bring anybody into the Church. Some people are merely meant to plant the seed. Another to water, and still another to bring in the harvest. No matter who is does the actual harvesting, it is still the Holy Spirit who brings the individual to conversion. Trust God.
Remember that faith is a gift. Ask God to give the person to whom you spoke that special gift of faith. Only he can respond to the gift received.
We love because God first loved us.

You don’t know that he wants to reject the message.

I expect you don’t know everything about why he doesn’t like what he doesn’t like, so stop taking on yourself to put right what you didn’t make wrong.

In addition, you should give time time.

Trust him to know his own mind. He doesn’t need to advocate in front of you. He doesn’t owe it to you to articulate to your satisfaction.

And trust someone else, that you don’t even know, to walk into his life, maybe a long time from now.

Yes, I’ve told God “tag, you’re it!”

Time for God to do what he wants with this person. I’ve did what I could and all God asked me to. Will he ever go to God? Who knows? If God wants me to know he will tell me. I do know that if I am the only one to bring the right message to him than I am the right messenger. God knows that and that is all that matters.
