Cape Town - Legendary South African singer Johnny Clegg died on Tuesday afternoon at the age 66.

Clegg, who had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2015, died at his family home in Johannesburg.

He achieved fame with bands Juluka and Savuka and songs like Scatterlings of Africa and Great Heart made him a global star.

Clegg is survived by his wife of 31 years, Jenny, and their two sons Jesse and Jaron.

As a tribute to him, a link to one of his best known songs.

Prayers for his soul.
I liked “Scatterlings” when it came out, although decades later, parts of that video would probably not be made today.

I’m sorry to hear that. Admittedly, I only know one of his songs, but a club I belong to has an award we give out annually, called the Great Heart Award that’s named after one of his songs.

I’m bummed. RIP.

Quick story. One night several years ago mid-week, my friend and I went to a Steve Winwood concert. I was tired, and prior to the start of the show I was saying that I wasn’t in the mood for an opening act and hoped there wouldn’t be one. There was. It was Johnny Clegg and Savuka. They blew me away and woke me up. Needless to say, I was disappointed in Steve Winwood after that.
