Risen Christ on cross?

An earlier thread made a referene to the “risen Christ on cross”. I can’t picture what this is referring to. Could someone describe the issue in detail or point me to a pic or description?

AKA Touch down Jesus. You know the gesture that referees make with both hands in the air. Picture him in a toga and then floating in front of a cross. I have seen others where he looks like superman as well.

The worst version of this I have every seen of this is Jesus just suspended in the air, no cross, no nails, just floating. It reminded me of seeing David Copperfield levitating a person during one of his magic shows. Last year however this Risen Christ fell from the ceiling and smashed into a lot of pieces (I guess they did not install it with the necessary hardware to hold its weight) It was unable to be repaired, so now in accordance with the new GIRM the church has a crucifix.

I used to think that, and maybe it was. But I changed my dislike of them when I saw the one at St. Anthony Church in Portland, OR. You see, St. Anthony is the church for St. Anthony’s Village, which is partly retirement/assisted living/nursing home community. The parishioners there know what a crucifix is; the suffering Jesus is there and there and there in wheelchairs and pushing around oxygen at every Mass. For them, in their parish Church, the Risen Christ high behind the altar makes all the sense in the world… I don’t know this, but I suspect it is a church that sees more funerals than baptisms, besides. (And yes, they do have crucifixes, too.)

We have one of those floating ones with no cross behind. Just some wierd off white swirls of plastic that someone had the decency to not fill with neon gasses.

It was sooooo distracting to me at first, that I refused to commit to the parish I had moved into because of it.

Then gradually, whenever my mind starts to wander, or get pulled away from joining into the mass by the kids, He is there, one arm raised to our Father, the other reaching down to me… pulling me up and into his arms.

I’ve seen the floating Jesus with no cross behind him, and the risen Jesus floating in front of the cross, but the strangest thing was I was in a Protestant Church last week (don’t ask) and all they had was a cross…no Jesus anywhere.
