Has anyone heard of the movie “Risen”? About a Roman assigned to find the body of Jesus, to prevent riots. It looks like it might be good.

I haven’t heard about it until now. I guess it is supposed to be released in January 2016. A did a quick search and found the same guy who worked on “Passion of the Christ” is also involved in this film. From what I have read, it sounds like it will be a pretty good movie.
 
Ah. I just found about this movie today too and I was going to post about it in this Bible movie ideas thread. Anyway:

Thoughts:
  • Jesus seems to be alive when he gets speared, his eyes are wide open and looking at the soldier. Come on, this is basic.
  • Yeshua instead of Jesus, neat.
  • The Roman battle scenes (against Zealots I presume) remind me of the “action and politics” focus of the recent TV show AD: The Bible Continues.
  • The tagline is “The most important event in human history… through the eyes of an unbeliever”. But the protagonist obviously becomes Christian by the end.
  • Is that supposed to be the Shroud of Turin?
This comes out in January. There’s also a Ben-Hur remake coming out next year. Well I hope they don’t flop. People here should be pleased that it plays the Biblical story straight unlike Exodus: Gods and Kings or whatever, and the new Ben-Hur looks to do the same. (I also want them to do well because I like ancient history epics.)
 
What’s amazing is that movies like Noah and AD and this still get produced in 2015.
Cecil B. DeMille would be proud.

I generally like movies that Kevin Reynolds works on and the cast looks good. I am hoping for good things with this one.
 
The film version of “Christ the Lord: Out of Egypt” by Anne Rice has a trailer after many years. But it’s called “The Young Messiah” now.

Didn’t want to make a new thread for it since they’re both due for early 2016 anyway, along with a new version of Ben-Hur.
