I told my father that if he attended a retreat I would do this program thing that’s suppose to help one’s reading but I was wondering if this would be ok since it might have some new age type factors.

First I would ask why you are giving your father an ultimatum? Are you an adult? If you are then you should not have to take any program that you do not find comfortable. If you are not an adult then my opening question resurfaces. Since when does a child tell his/her father that if he does something then you’ll do something?

Now back to your original dilemma concerning the reading program. No, this program does not seem o.k. from the resource that you provided. If you are an adult then this is a slam dunk. If you are a child then obey your father and discern the items that you know do not reflect your Christian faith. You might express this with a dad who is willing to go to a retreat as a mode of conversation that contrasts New Age with Christianity. You may be the one to do the teaching this time around.

God Bless…teachccd

I’d tell him I won’t do the reading program for three reasons: One, it’s too New Agey and therefore possibly wrong, and oyu don’t want to take that risk; two, it includes motivational materials with at least one false statement among them, and you doubt you will be able to use such material; three, you obviously know how to read.

Please don’t even come close to messing with the new-age. I got sucked into it a few years ago and spent a good 3-4 years in it, and still went back and forth from Christianity to the new age for a couple more years before settling in the Church. It seems innocent, it is intriguing, but it is very dangerous. Not that bad things would automatically happen to you, as I had many strange and intriguing experiences when I was involved in it, but that it would weaken your faith in God, start to think things are OK that are clearly evil, and I imagine could be a magnet for demons.

It’s a very slippery slope, the beginning of which is starting to look into something that seems all too innocent on the surface.

So yes, if you think something has even the faintest hints of new-age ideas in it, don’t go near it.

There are other reading programs. Why not find one that is not morally objectionable and offer to do that one instead?

I think you can find better reading programs, a good place to check would be your public library most usually have books on cd/cassette. You might be able to find a better program & not even have to pay for it. I don’t like this program from reading the site you linked, it has errors in this it & some weird stuff. Like Einstein’s brain weighting 8 1/2 pounds. I’m not 100% sure what new age is. But I think they took the visitation part a little too far, its kind of creepy. I agree that if you put your mind to it (& pray) you can do any thing. & that a lot of whither or not you can do something is in how you think about it. But this program just seems kind of weird.
