Yes, each person during the Inquiry phase is interviewed. Where this information is discussed, including previous Divorces and Marriages, Baptism, Christian background, etc.
The only private discussion of any sort that I’ve had with anyone involved with RCIA, is when we first went to ask about. We met with the coordinator in August, we introduced ourselves, and then she handed us a form to fill out. We filled it out, and yes, it did ask our marital status and our baptism status and what church we went to (if applicable). It also asked us basic information like name, address, parents’ names. Then it had two mini-essay type questions-- why do you want to be Catholic and what influence have Catholics had on your life?

She read over the form, said everything looked fine, told us when RCIA would start, and nothing has been talked about since. The whole meeting took about ten minutes. It is my understanding that except for one person in our class who has some other things to work out, this is the same thing that happened with everyone else-- there are about 20 of us.

Nothing was even mentioned about rites at all until, heh, when she got up two weeks ago and said “I need to know what service you want to do the Rite of Acceptance at by the end of class today, oh and it’s in two Sundays” and that everyone would be doing it, and that was that. When someone asked what it was, our priest said “it’s a neat thing that is a part of RCIA and we basically introduce all of you to the church in a formal setting”.

We finally got sponsor last week… My husband and I told her at our initial meeting that we would need help finding sponsors, because we don’t know any Catholics at all, and she said she’d take care of it. She finally just asked the people who help set up and bring food for RCIA to be the sponsors of my husband and I… last week.

Anyway… thank you for your help. I apologize if I’m rambling, but I’m really frustrated with how disorganized everything has been so far and how we’re never told anything.

Exactly as SuscipeMeDomine stated. I completely understand being uncomfortable having the spotlight on you, I’m the same way. I went through the Rite of Acceptance as a sponsor two weeks ago. I get totally choked up going through these sorts of things, I can barely breathe. Please take heart in that you are appearing in front of not just strangers, but your family, your brothers and sisters in Christ. You will be fine, the rite only takes a few minutes, although it will probably feel like the longest part of the mass.

I just wanted you to know that I understand how you feel, I hate hate hate the spotlight myself. But I got through it without a catatonic anxiety attack, so it can be done. Try not to think about it so much before the day of the rite. It really will breeze by.

I pray you find inner peace to get through it! Welcome to the family! 🙂
Imagine doing a public “belivers” baptism as an adult in the Baptist Church…I had the same feeling…🙂
