Robot lives matter? YouTube removing robot fight videos for ‘animal cruelty’

The thoughts of animal abuse always brings me to tears. I can see how robot fighting might perpetuate violence which could be a reason to take these videos down.

Calling it animal abuse however is making light of all the animals who actually suffer horribly

I don’t worry about the robots, of course. I wonder about the people, if any, who watch and enjoy such contests. If it’s just an engineering challenge, okay, but I hope it doesn’t glorify violence or desensitize people to violence.

Honestly at this point, I think the more likely explanation is that the reviewers aren’t actually doing their job. I’ve heard so many different stories of so many different things being removed for obviously silly explanations, from all ends of the political spectrum or even things with no relevance at all. The best explanation to me is that at some point the “reviewers” are just rubber stamping automated decisions.

Bear in mind that 300 hours of video is uploaded to YouTube every minute. I can’t imagine trying to moderate that is easy. And while YouTube does have automated systems to help, there are plenty of things it probably can’t do well on, like the context in which a subject is discussed. Overall, there are probably more hours of video to review than can be reasonably covered, and that’s before considering potentially unrealistic expectations.

Pretty much, yeah. I can see how an automated algorithm might not be able to tell the difference between animals and certain robots.

This. I don’t know what a robot fight looks like, but if it involves them getting an arm or a leg torn off, or their head cut off, like in a gladiator fight, than I suspect it would appeal to a pretty sick kind of viewer. As @Dolphin rightly says, it’s dangerous to assimilate this to cruelty to animals.
