Hey, I was recently at a Green Day concert in OKC with my bf, and it was sooo awesome and I just was curious to know who everyone’s favorite rock bands/songs are. My top favorites are Bon Jovi, Green Day, and Alter Bridge/Creed. There are many others but these are on the very top of the list because I love all the songs I’ve heard by them. Who does everyone here like? 😉

I definitely love Creed but i got a soft spot for switchfoot and lifehouse too! 👍

I’m afraid I can’t agree with the creed bussines. Green Day on the other hand is awsome. I saw them perform in Long Beach, Billie Joe is a really good frontman, great stage presence. The best rock is the classic stuff though, CCR,Stones,Zepplin,Petty etc.

Mianstream rock
3 doors down, nickelback, creed and matchbox 20 are probably my favs.

Christian rock
J. Camp, pillar, seventh day slumber, alterbridge, switchfoot, casting crowns, Todd Smith, seven places, furthur seems forever and the list goes on and on.

**Hawk Nelson **is my fave band.

I also like Switchfoot, Relient K, MxPx, Linkin Park, 3 Doors Down, Matchbox Twenty, and Final Round.

some of my favorites are marilyn manson, nine inch nails, nirvana, the beatles, and the white stripes.

the white stripes are catholics, you know.

🙂

At The Drive In was the last great rock band. Too bad they broke up at their peak.

Really though, rock is pretty much dead at this point. It seems like all new rock bands do is copy older rock bands. It used to be that rock was always evolving, changing into something new. It borrowed from older styles, but it didn’t directly copy them. Now it’s all 60s revival or 70s revival or 3rd wave punk (which sucks, I miss the hardcore days) or 3rd wave ska or angular (just a rebirth of new wave) or yet another short-lived revival of industrial timed suspiciously close to the latest NIN album. People think emo is new, but it’s been around since the 80s in one form or another (one of the many mutant offshoots of hardcore, sharing that distinction with Oi, Speed Metal, Grunge and a host of others).

Every big rock band today is just regurgitating the rock music they grew up listening to without really changing anything. Grunge was the last truly new thing in rock and that got old real fast. I suppose rap metal was new for a short while before it became abundantly clear that it lacked the potential to express meaning. Rock will eat itself I guess. I don’t think I’ll really miss it when people finally get tired of hearing it.

Im into things like Rise Against, Perfect Circle, Tool, Seether, and similar bands.

For some reason, I have a real problem with Chrisitan rock. Something about it just doesn’t seem right.

That’s not to say that there is an objectively moral problem with it, I just personally feel awkward listening to bands like Switchfoot (i don’t like their music anyway, though), Relient K, etc…

Oh, and Green Day got FAR too political for my taste. Too emo as well :p.

its me again! actually before it wasnt me it was my brother stealing my name  i really like some of reliant k (especially the sadies hawkins dance song 😃 !!!) i also like listening to light upbeat pop like ace of base, queen, kelly clarkson… u get the pic

Hey I remember them from like 10 years ago. Did they get popular?

I really don’t like many new bands–because most of them can’t play.
There’s something to be said about a time when musicians where older and were revered as “rock gods”–bands that could play and that kids wanted to play like. I haven’t seen anything like that today.
Do most mainstream bands deserve to be rockstars? No. It’s all manufactured garbage.

If you’re wondering how things are going on here in the underground/punk world, it aint looking too good either. It’s all a mix of Velvet Underground and A Flock of Seaguls. But music is sposte to be fun. Let’s rock’n’roll!

They released their last album, Relationship of Command, in 2000. It was a big success, both critically and in terms of sales. It was definitely their strongest album effort and was clearly the peak of their career.

They toured for a short while, basking in the glow of success and even getting a couple of videos in heavy rotation. Then they broke up due to artistic differences – really, they actually had artistic differences.

Two of the band’s members went off and formed what could possibly be the only good progressive rock band in history, Mars Volta. The other members went and formed Sparta, a sort of emocore band (I say emocore rather than emo simply because it’s much closer to emo’s roots and it is frankly waaaaay better than any other emo I’ve ever heard – it’s emo without the whining. If you liked ATDI you might enjoy Sparta, particularly their second album, Porcelain).

Y’all gotta get into a little Scottish band called Idlewild. They’re excellent! Great lyrics that are never smarmy. Start with their CD The Remote Part & move (very quickly) on to their very latest Warnings/Promises. Great stuff. Very melodic & excellent musicianship. Saw them on tour with Pearl Jam 4 times & every show was great. Frankly, I liked them better than PJ - they rock out loud! Seriously . . . run, don’t walk! You will not be sorry!
