Roman Catholic Confession?

Hello all! I wanted to point something out about our Roman confession and penances. My theology teacher told the story of having gone to confession at a troubled point in his life. He had confessed many, many sins. After the priest gave him a penance of something like 2 Our Fathers and 3 Hail Mary’s. He looked at the priest and asked, " Did you hear everything I said? That’s all you’re giving me?" the priest looked at him and said, " Yes, but I want you to know I will be fasting the next 30 days for you." in the Roman rite priests are asked to not simply give penances, but offer things up for their penitents.
I don’t want to make any assumptions, but a very similar story has been posted on the LifeTeen blog: lifeteen.com/my-side-of-the-confessional-what-is-it-like-for-a-priest/. Perhaps, it’s a pretty common occurrence 🤷

Not just judgmental but this comment is dripping what I can only call demonic hatred.

I made the sign of the Cross and pray an Our Father for the soul who could write such a thing and one for the poor priest who is subjected by such an attack (as well as a Hail Mary and a Glory Be)…

I really do hope that the moderators remove this comment from the forum.

Until then every time I enter this sub-forum and see this thread title I do so once again.
or a niave poster who isn’t thinking that much into what they are saying…? As I said just recently people do not think about what messages they are giving on here when they are getting involved. My comment is resented but I do kind of worry about how others may see some of the mixed messages going off and am sure that posters mean very well but do not see the whole implication of their responses and the post you have highlighted is a perfect example of how someone may seemingly isn’t thinking something through before posting it. They mayn’t be seeing it at the level you commented on. I didn’t. I just thought it a careless judgement. But others who are reading will see what you see too. There are a lot of posts that whilst we know Catholicism isn’t based on perfectionism, I wish people would take a little bit more time to read their posts er before posting and realise quite the image that is coming over, which is hard to do when they are so involved but different people will see different things and I am as guilty because of the heat of the moment etc but I am sure like all other posts, the person may be just not thinking properly what their post may read like to others. They may be spamming and mean to cause deliberate hurt or they may be just innocent. The difficulty of internetting we can’t see the intent of the person. But I am too aware of how it looks to insiders and how it looks too to outsiders and the two be different…
sorry and I hope your wish gets granted. 🙂
