Romans 5;1 And The Preacher

I heard a preacher argue that Romans 5:1 (“since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God”) means that we can never lose our salvation. He says the biblical concept if peace is very robust and doesn’t mean just a temporary cease fire. What is your response?

He’s right. The thing is; this happens in far fewer people than what we hear about.
 
Re. the biblical concept of peace being “very robust”,: I agree BILL; and I would hazard a guess that the Prince of Peace agrees as well.

I’m probably just a little more scrutinous with the statement ,"…we can never lose our salvation" though. I sort of see two things here:


  1. *] God doesn’t go on holidays and will always offer his Mercy and forgiveness to the sinner, and Christ paid the price of our Redemption. So in this sense, I agree that we cannot lose these.

    *] Salvation however, is deliverance from sin and its consequences . Again, while God is always *willing *to deliver us, there does exist the possibility that a soul could become so hardened as to not desire such deliverance. Notwithstanding cases of misunderstanding and extreme emotional woundedness, the possibility exists that a soul could refuse God’s Mercy. As long as human beings still continue to have free will this possibility will continue to exist. I remember my father explaining this to me years ago saying that it can be a *terrible freedom *if man so chooses. In a mysterious way, our prayers for others can actually have an effect in this area.

    (just my thoughts). 🙂

This is exactly why I didn’t list it. Thank you for asking. I am Anglican. I was a cradle Catholic up until a few years ago. I left the church and was received into the Anglican Communion.
