So what is the difference between a Rosary and a Chaplet?
Different prayers said? different way of saying the prayers?

Also, Ive seen one rosary with 7 decades. How would one use that when there are 5 mysteries?

And a lasso rosary?

rosaries have 5 decades of 10 beads each, and between the decades, are 1 bead, the Our Father bead. the beginnig of the rosary has a crucifix, the next bead is the Our Father, the next 3 beads are the 3 Hail Mary beads, and the next one after that is the Our Father bead. The center piece is the miarculous medal.

chaplets are not rosaries, they do not contain eveything above.
lasso one, never heard of it.

Chaplets and rosaries are ways to keep track when doing a set of prayers. The terms are loosly interchangeable, although “rosary” tends to be used for chaplets devoted Mother Mary.

For example, that 7 decade rosary refers to what is sometimes called the Franciscan Crown or The Seraphic Rosary. They meditate on a set of 7 Joys of Mary.

Of course, when people refer to THE Rosary, that means the Dominican Rosary of 5, 15, or 20 decades.

A good source of information would be MY TREASURY OF CHAPLETS by Patricia S. Quintiliani

A chaplet basically means a string of (prayer) beads, or the prayers designed to be said on such beads. Yes the Rosary is technically ONE form of chaplet, but it’s become so popular that the word Rosary is used to distinguish it from other less well-known ones.

There are plenty of chaplets devoted to Mary that can’t really be called Rosaries, usually they don’t even have the Rosary form of sets of 10 Hail Marys (decades). These other chaplets include the Immaculate Heart chaplet, Perpetual Help chaplet, Star of the Sea chaplet, Seven Sorrows chaplet which is a lovely one and probably the best-known Marian chaplet after the Rosary itself, as well as the Seven Joys (Franciscan Crown) which has been mentioned.

And then there are plenty of other chaplets devoted to Jesus, the saints and the angels. The best known of these being, of course, the Divine Mercy. As you can probably gather, I’m quite the chaplet geek, I’ve said more than a few different ones in my time 😃

lasoo or ladder? ladder rosaries are simply the same but constructed slightly differently.

lasoo may refer to a wedding rosary which is doubled so a husband and wife can use one simultaneously I think

The seven decade rosary is in honor of the Seven Sorrowful Mysteries of our Blessed Mother.
