Thank you! I will try this. One mystery, and one of each prayer in the rosary.

As I have been reading people’s replies I feel that the most difficult part of it is the rote learning and memorization. That will get easier with time I realize.

When I came back to the Faith after years away, I looked into the rosary. I quickly learned there are subtle differences in how people instruct you how to pray it. They’re only subtle differences, and the reason for this is that the Rosary is a devotion and there is no strict set of rules for it.

If you have access to Youtube, you can pray along with a pre-recorded group rosary.

It’s Lent right now, so praying the sorrowful mysteries every day (except Sundays, which is a solemnity throughout the year, and you should pray the glorious mysteries Sundays [though you aren’t required to, of course]).

I’m also a cradle Catholic and my preference in Praying the Rosary is:

I Pray it in the early morning, by a lighted candle…
I make the sign of the cross with the Crucifix…
I then kiss Jesus…and say "I Love YOU above all else…
Then I Pray.
I enjoy Praying the Rosary alone and concentrate on the mysteries with my eyes closed…so Peaceful!
Everyone Prays in their own peaceful way…

Question! There are many different parts of the rosary. like the Apostles Creed, Our Father, and Hail Mary. Are we to say AMEN after every single one or do we just say AMEN after the Final Prayer?

When priests have led the rosary at funerals or in the church in my little corner of the world, they’ve always said, ”Amen,” after each prayer.

Can anybody tell me about the mysteries. I found two different ones. One says
The First Joyful Mystery – Mary is Chosen
Mother of GOD” and then say the Our Father .
  1. Say ten Hail Marys while meditating on the Mystery.
(Obedience)
  1. Through the disobedience of Adam sin enters the world. Rom. 5:12
  2. The Father sends His Son to save the world. Jn. 3:17
  3. The Angel Gabriel is sent to a virgin named Mary. Lk. 1:26,27
  4. The Angel tells Mary: “You are to have a Son and will name Him Jesus.” Lk. 1:31
  5. He is the Son of God. Lk. 1:32
  6. Mary consents: “Let it be done to me.” Lk. 1:38
  7. God the Son becomes Man, in obedience to His Father. Lk. 1:35
  8. By His obedience many shall be saved. Rom. 5:19
  9. Mary becomes Mother of God. Lk. 1:35
  10. Nothing is impossible with God. Lk. 1:37

The second says

Announce “ The First Joyful Mystery – The Annunciation” and then say the Our Father .
  1. Say ten Hail Marys while meditating on the Mystery.
  2. The time for the Incarnation is at hand.
  3. Of all women God prepared Mary from her conception to be the Mother of the Incarnate Word.
  4. The Angel Gabriel announces: “Hail, full of grace! The Lord is with thee.”
  5. Mary wonders at this salutation.
  6. The Angel assures her: “Fear not . . . you shall conceive in your womb, and give birth to a Son.”
  7. Mary is troubled for she has made a vow of virginity.
  8. The Angel answers that she will conceive by the power of the Holy Spirit, and her Son will be called the Son of God.
  9. The Incarnation awaits Mary’s consent.
  10. Mary answers: “Behold the handmaid of the Lord. Be it done unto me according to your word.”
  11. The Word was made flesh and dwelt among us.
Spiritual Fruit: Humility

So which is it?

Hi! I’m guessing that you’re comparing information from two different websites? Please send us the website addresses for the two differing examples, so we can see what you’re seeing. W
For example, what are the missing items 1 through 5, in the second one?

Aaaaah, yes! Their discombobulation and convolution is why I use other sites!

It would help understanding if they would distinguish categories better! For the 5 Joyful Mysteries, they start with Mystery #1, then enumerate what to say and think on those first 10 beads. However, their photo cuts off the beginning of what you’re to meditate on while saying the first Hail Mary!

I vote to leave this site and start simply. I’m going to start you off as though you know almost zilch. We’ll go for the outline, first, then, in another post, I’ll give you more detail.

Sorry, but I don’t know how to link. Here’s how I do it. Google: new advent. org — how to recite the holy rosary

Select the new advent site. You’ll see 1 piece of paper. It’s nice to be able to copy it and laminate it.
  1. The 1st column has all the prayers.
  2. 2nd column is a numbered listing of all the prayers, so that you can match bead # in the diagram to this list in order to find the right prayer.
  3. 3rd column is a giant rosary with all beads numbered. When you’re ready for space #22, find #22 in the 2nd column. Match the prayer #name with the actual prayer in column #1. Easey-peasey!
I only need to add a few bits of additional information: on the beginning three Hail Marys, with •Bead #4, we pray a Hail Mary while concentrating upon the virtue of FAITH;
•Bead #5, we pray a Hail Mary while concentrating upon the virtue of HOPE, and
•Bead #6, we pray a Hail Mary while concentrating upon the virtue of CHARITY.

AND, different localities sometimes have different prayers after the last Hail Mary is said. I’m very partial to finishing with the Prayer to St Michael the Archangel, by adding an 82nd prayer.

In a day or so, when you’re ready to graduate to a deeper level of concentrating on so many things at once, I’ll post a follow-up version in this thread. I hope others will also post their favorite versions, so we all can help each other grow.

I’m sorry that you must be stuck away from home for your quarantine. May God be with you. 😇

@Tis_Bearself Thank you so very much for this information, it is very helpful indeed.

I truly love the link you posted, as I am very much a “dummy,” lol, when it comes to all things Catholic, but am trying.

After holding the crucifix of my rosary, I cross myself with it, and then before the apostles creed, I kiss the crucifix.

Kissing it makes me feel more in love with God and draws me closer to Him.

Does anyone else feel this way, if they are kissing it?
I was taught at home, before entering first grade, to kiss the rosary crucifix first thing and last thing.

After WWII, when I was in 4th grade, in 1950, we had a lot of DPs (Displaced Persons) assimilated into our mid-central part of the US. Most were from Germany, but one European family (whose ethnicity I can’t recall) always kissed the rosary more frequently, as well as at the very beginning and very end.

I thought that it was a lovely practice because it made Christ’s sacrifice and all the mysteries more vivid for me, as though I was lifted right into those Biblical scenes that we envision while contemplating the mysteries, so I started doing it, also. I kiss the crucifix at the very beginning of each new decade, just before the next mystery is announced. My rosary is small, though. A larger rosary might be difficult to manipulate without losing track of the beads.

So, I kiss the crucifix seven times

OP, I had a difficult time locating this thread until today. In response to your question, I believe the answer is humility. That site’s confusion is why I only consult it when I’m writing down their scriptural meditations. I hope you’ve found your own favorite rosary sites by now.

You’ve likely notice that many rosary sites give no mention at all of the virtues of faith, hope and charity for the first three Hail Marys as does the newadvent.org site, and some say that the third one is love, not charity. I’ve never been able to find anything that claims to be the final word on that, so I go with charity, since love seems easier for people to grasp than does charity.

Please check out the thread, “Let’s say a Perpetual Rosary” on this same Spirituality Forum where contemplative art, sincere intentions and heartfelt love are expressed over and over. Best wishes to you!
