I am in RCIA at the moment and am having a little trouble with the Rosary.

First (and I know this might sound a little silly) I didn’t realize that I was suppose to meditate on the mysteries as I said the Hail Mary’s. I thought you were just supposed to stop and meditate on them as you came to each decade and then continue on with more Hail Mary’s.😃

My question now is, is there an easy way to remember all of the Rosary? I mean the Our Father isn’t hard and I’ve got the Hail Mary and even the Fatima prayer down but the Mysteries, Apostles Creed (I keep getting it mixed up with the Nicene Creed), the Salve Regina, the Memorare and the prayer that begins with “Oh God, whose…” (sorry don’t know what it’s called) I can’t remember these prayers for the life of me. Is there an easy way to remember these prayers?

Just right up your own little prayer card to follow when praying the rosary. If you start saying it everyday, it won’t be too long before it comes naturally to you.

I am also a convert, and avoided the rosary for a couple of years because it seemed like too much to manage. Then finally we did a study of the rosary in my Bible study class, and I started praying it regularly. Now it is nice to be able to pray it whenever I want.

I’m an RCIA Candidate as well.👍

And I still need crib sheets and pamphlets and booklets to keep it all straight. I’ve got all the prayers down pat after six months except the concluding prayers. So I fumble a bit. Well, a lot:rolleyes:

But…opinion only…I pray the rosary under the assumptions that Mother Mary is level-headed and reasonable, really does understand, and even has a sense of humor. As long as I am doing the best I can at that moment, all is well.
🙂

There’s nothing prohibiting you saying the Nicene Creed instead of the Apostles’ Creed if it’s easier for you. Though I had trouble with those two for quite a while when I started learning the Rosary :o

If you don’t want to write up the prayers yourself, you can find little cards that have everything on them in Catholic book stores, or print them off the Internet.

Above all it’s just practice - like riding a bike or tying shoes 😃

Really? I need to re-learn the Nicene Creed, and it would help if I were allowed recited it daily in the Rosary, in place of the Apostles’ Creed. After all, I do the Apostles’ Creed daily with the Chaplet Of The Divine Mercy

Yeah, I can just see Mary as I prayed the Rosary for the first few times and totally messed up the mysteries just shaking her head and smiling to herself.

I’m using a little cheat sheet at the moment myself but I know if I could remember it I would get alot more out of the Rosary.

I take it that your cats endorse this opinion - you don’t note any objections from them 😉

I’m still a little confused on indulgences but I read somewhere that saying the Rosary in church before Mass gave a person an indulgence. Would a Rosary said with the Nicene Creed instead of the Apostles Creed be valid for the indulgence? (or am I totally confused on indulgences:o)

Put it this way - if you’ve heard as many Rosaries said as I have, you’ll realise that there are all sorts of bibs and bobs added and taken out - especially at the end. I don’t think the Nicene creed would be any problem - although for public recitation you may wish to stick to the Apostle’s Creed.

Here’s a good printout page with the prayers on it.

The three cats neither endorse nor oppose any of my opinions. As long as I Venerate (not Worship) them they are quite content. And when I see Fluffy (my all-white cat) curled up in her heated window sill bed, with the sun on her back, and this look of utter contentment on her face, I would like to believe she is indeed one of my Guardian Angels, manifesting herself in 4 feet and fur.

Wouldn’t surprise me in the least - I know one of my cats appeared to be convinced that he was the incarnation of a spirit of some sort - not an angel unfortunately 😦

I’ve purchase a few CD’s that have the Rosary with music. I’ve found it is just the easiest way to learn as I don’t have to read, I just listen and then repeat. It’s a GREAT way to learn, and I can do this in my car as I commute. I find it a great help to my day and I don’t get stressed at all when I’m stuck in traffic now!😉 I’m the only one in the gridlock with a look of complete peace on my face!:getholy:

I have a little finger rosary in my pocket pretty much constantly. I don’t drive so never get stuck in traffic, but certainly if I’m waiting for a bus or train or in a queue somewhere out it comes 👍

The Rosary and Divine Mercy are my favourite stress management tools.

I actually am disappointed if my trip doesn’t take as long because traffic is smooth sailing, as I don’t like arriving before I’m finished with the Rosary!

I have the Divine Mercy on CD also, I like that for the afternoon drive! And I just recently purchased the Stations of the Cross on CD, I have to try to find a way to shuffle these, they’re all great!

😃

What I did was read the prayers from a pamphlet on how to pray the rosary until I did have them memorized.

The only time I get the Apostles’ Creed mixed up with the Nicene Creed is when I try to recite it out loud – I usually pray the Apostles’ Creed “in my head” and the Nicene out loud, so my brain seems to automatically go to the Nicene whenever I say it out loud!

When I first started learning to say the rosary, I would use virtual “cheat sheets” to get me through it. After several weeks, I had all of the prayers memorized, and now I can say them all in my sleep! ( Actually, sometimes I am half asleep - I say it when I go to bed at night)! Try this site for some tips:

If you are leading it in Church, then you should stick with what the people are used to, not (so much) because of the Indulgence (I don’t actually know how much latitude the Indulgence allows in changing the prayers, but I suppose there must be some, since the ending prayers are different, everywhere I go), but just because most people aren’t open to having things sprung on them by surprise.
