Rosary intentions requirement?

In the last month or so I’ve started saying a daily rosary. At first I did not ask for any intention to go with it other than as a devotion to Mary. Once I realized that an intention can be attached to a rosary I’ve been saying it in appreciation for all that God gives us. Does that sound appropriate? Does there have to be an intention attached to each rosary said?

Not a silly question at all.

All prayer is good. If no intention is attached, the prayer is still acceptable to God, but an opportuntiy has been missed to beseech Him and if it be Gods’ Will, to obtain ‘favors’ from Him.

Praying the rosary with the intention to thank God is a very good intention and one myself that I have prayed the rosary for. It is very good to offer praise and thanks to God for all temporal and spiritual blessings. Think of the 10 lepers healed yet only one returned to Jesus to give thanks - and our Lord said “Where are the other nine?”

The Rosary is Our Lords life - each set of 5 Mysteries concern a specific event in His Life, so that is what you are in a sense offering to God to ask for mercy, for healing, conversion of ourselves & sinners, interceding for others and their needs or for whatever other good intention we have.
 
By its nature the rosary is an intercessory prayer.

We say six Our Father’s “Thy will be done…give us this day our daily bread”, and Fifty three Hail Marys “Pray For us sinners…” with every rosary.
