WHEN are you supposed to meditate while praying the rosary? After announcing the mystery, but before the Our Father, or after the Our Father? What about meditating while saying the decade?

Also, does anyone know of some good meditations online?

Thanks

I think the meditation for each decade is based on the virtues…

The Joyful Mysteries

The messenger of God announces to Mary that she is to be the Mother of God
(Humility)

Mary visits and helps her cousin Elizabeth.
(Love of Neighbor)

Mary gives birth to Jesus in a stable in Bethlehem.
(Spirit of Poverty)

Jesus I presented in the Temple.
(Obedience to God’s Will)

Jesus is found in the Temple.
(Fidelity to Vocation)

The Sorrowful Mysteries

Jesus undergoes his agony in the Garden of Gethsemane.
(Spirit of Prayer)

Jesus is scourged at the pillar.
(Modesty and Purity)

Jesus is crowned with thorns.
(Courage)

Jesus carries the cross to Calvary.
(Patience in Suffering)

Jesus dies on the cross for our sins.
(Self-denial)

The Glorious Mysteries

Jesus rises from the dead.
(Faith)

Jesus ascends into heaven.
(Hope)

The Holy Spirit comes to the apostles and the Blessed Mother.
(Wisdom, Love, Zeal, Fortitude)

The Mother of Jesus is taken into heaven.
(Eternal Happiness)

Mary is crowned queen of heaven and earth.
(Devotion to Mary and Final Perseverance)

I believe you pray for an increase in these virtues and meditate throughout the decade on the mystery.

you meditate while saying all the prayers, that is why it is made up of short, repetitive easily memorized prayers, to aid in meditation but always to draw our thoughts back to Jesus, whose name is the centerpiece of each prayer.

Also, the Holy Father himself has even suggested adding a little clause to each Hail Mary about the mystery being meditated upon. For example, while meditating on the Crucifixion, one could say “Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus who died on the cross for our salvation…” or something similar. The thinking is that this little clause helps keep us focused on our meditations as we recite the prayers.
