For lent, I decided to pray the Rosary once daily, and I;ve been doing that. However, during the Hail Mary’s, I start thinking about other things like what I’m going to be doing the next few days, etc. I try to focus on meditating on the mystery, though. But, my main concern is that I kind of just want to pray the Rosary quickly so I can finish. Is that wrong of me , that I’m not enjoying praying the Rosary more than I should? I love saying prayers and I always pray in the morning and night, but the Novena and Rosary are too long for me sometimes. Any suggestions?

Are you praying the Rosary for your own enjoyment, or as an offering to God?

When we get interior consolation during prayer, etc., that’s God giving to us. When we do not get interior consolation during prayer, etc., but do it anyway…that’s us giving to God. 🙂

And we all pray within the limits of our capability. Some folks have long attention spans; some have short attention spans. We can only do what we can do. But turning one’s will towards pleasing God, pleases God. So, keep trying, and do the best you can. And don’t sweat the small stuff. 🙂

You are NOT alone, believe me! I could have written that myself. I pray a Rosary every day and more often than not, I’m distracted by my to-do list. It’s really hard to stay focused. Even when I say my Rosary during adoration, I get distracted. This is just human nature. We live in a busy, loud, hustle-bustle world and it’s hard to tear yourself away for even 15 minutes. Just keep trying and remember you are still obataining graces through your distractions. Maybe before you start, you could ask the Holy Spirit to enlighten you and help you stay focused on the task at hand (i.e. the mysteries).

I mostly pray the Rosary’s during my lunch break, and I like it because I have more peace and quiet since no one is around me. But, at the same time I like praying during my break because that way when I leave work I can either go to the gym or just go home and relax before bed. I feel bad because I feel like I should wantto pray the Rosary, rather than just do it like it’s a duty, What do you think?

I think praying can feel like a duty sometimes rather than be enjoyable. I guess that’s why we get it in confession as our penance. Heck, sometimes talking to my family members feels like a duty, too. And they answer me vocally and right away!

lol that’s funny. But, yea you are right about that; most things do feel like a duty

I once saw the advice:

If you can pray well do so. Otherwise, pray poorly like the rest of us do.

My grandfather liked the story of the man who claimed perfect concentration when he prayed. The priest bet him his horse that he couldn’t pray an entire Hail Mary without being distracted. So he began:

*Hail Mary, Full of Grace, the Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.

Do I get the bridle too?
