I’m reading “The Excellence of the Rosary” by Frings which states that St Gregory the Great mentions how a wreath of spiritual roses in prayer was better than actual roses so he compiled a collection of prayers to Mary, and also that St Brigid prayed a form of the rosary with beads. I cannot find any sources for these, does anyone know what the author is referencing?
 
No, I’m sorry, I’m looking for original sources that provided the author the information. For example, in what writing of St Gregory’s did he speak of these prayers he compiled? Or how do we know St Brigid prayed with beads?
