Why do we ask Mary to pray for us more than praying directly to God in the rosary

I can’t speak for you or anyone else; I meditate on the Mysteries of Jesus in each decade and Not on the individual prayers.

Cause the whole point of the rosary is a devotion to Our Lady! That’s where the word rosary comes from, roses for Our Lady!

If you want to pray directly to God there’s tons of other Devotions that you can do if you wish.

That was exactly was I was thinking to answer my own question, it more about getting close to God not about what you pray 🙂

Is there a translation of the inscriptions on that picture?

The entire Rosary, including the Hail Marys as well as the other prayers, is a prayer to God and a meditation on the Life of Christ.
If you want to pray directly to God
You seem to be under the mistaken impression that the Rosary is a prayer to Mary. This is incorrect.
The Rosary IS a prayer “Directly to God”. It is a meditation on the Life of Christ.

No, I understand that in the Rosary we pray to God. In all our prayers we pray to God. It was a mistake on my part, I didn’t mean it to sound the way it did.
Thank you for correcting me.

quick question: Since we are asking Mary to pray for us, to Whom is SHE praying?

Does Scripture not tell us that the prayer of a righteous person is most efficacious?

Does Jesus not tell us, “where two or three are gathered in My Name, there am I in the midst of them?”

Regarding the mysteries of the Rosary, whose life, death, resurrection and rule in Heaven are they about? The answer is Jesus.

So it is not a ‘pray more to Mary OR pray ‘direct to God’,

It is a praying to Mary, a righteous woman who bore the Christ, who prays with us (two or three gathered together) ‘Directly to God’ in order for us to more perfectly fulfill God’s commands.

As others have said, the Rosary IS Christ-centred in its nature… BUT it is still a Marian devotion. We need the Rosary, because we need Our Lady in our lives.

The official prayer of the Church, that is the Mass and the Liturgy of the Hours, is primarily directed to God, with prayers to Our Lady only popping up from time to time.

Also, you can never have too much Mary. As a Protestant convert it took me a long time to truly appreciate this. She ALWAYS draws us closer to Christ.

I am not sure what the opening question means.
However, I pray the rosary every day with my wife but pray often to God otherwise through the day. If the opening post suggests Catholics pray the rosary more than they pray directly to God, I wonder how he thinks this is the universal case with Catholics?

I suspect the OP had more the Rosary’s Hail Mary/Our Father ratio in mind.

OP, to me, the Rosary is praying with Mary and learning from her how to look at Christ’s life, death and resurrection, as well as asking for her intercession. It’s very much Christ-centered.

For me, the rosary is like walking through the mysteries of Our Lord’s life while holding her hand. Being His mother, no one knew Jesus better than she did.

“And the wine failing, the mother of Jesus saith to him: They have no wine.”

Jesus listens to His mother!

It is useless denying that the “Hail Mary” is a prayer to Mary, because it very much is. Yes, the Rosary is a prayer to God, because the Hail Marys are secondary to our meditation upon the Mysteries, but it’s “Hail Mary” and it’s not “Hail God” so draw your own conclusion about who we’re addressing in the second person singular. I sincerely hope we are not commenting on God the Father’s virgin womb!

As several people have mentioned here, we do not “Pray To” saints. That is Catholic shorthand for asking the intercession of a saint in helping us pray to God. All prayers end up with God. We pray WITH the saints.
Mary is the greatest of all saints.
The Rosary is both a prayer to God and a devotion to Mary.
The Rosary is also first and foremost a scripturally-based meditation on the life of Christ.
This is basic Catholic teaching, I am not going to argue it with you or anyone else.
You can think what you like.

Yes, we definitely do pray to saints. This is de fide Catholic teaching. When I say “Hail Mary” I am focusing my prayer on Mary, I am praying TO her. It is useless denying this, the Communion of Saints is settled doctrine and to deny that we pray to saints is to mislead Protestants and Catholics alike. Please stop doing it.

Catholic Encyclopedia:
The solidarity itself implies a variety of inter-relations: within the Church Militant, not only the participation in the same faith, sacraments, and government, but also a mutual exchange of examples, prayers, merits, and satisfactions; between the Church on earth on the one hand, and purgatory and heaven on the other, suffrages, invocation, intercession, veneration.
Even Jehovah’s Witnesses know that Catholics pray to saints.
