Does America have a culture that seems to promote selfish rotten dreams? Such as being rich and famous? The media unfortunately seems to encourage aiming for that kind of life-style all the time, especially with things like “American Idol” We also seem to put a lot of importance on “being happy” with yourself. We always ask young people “what do you want to be when you grow up?” and “if you stick your mind to it, you can do anything!” Shouldn’t we instead ask “what does God want you to be when you grow up?” and I’m sure there will be different answers. I just met some theater students the other night, and about half of them seriously wanted to become famous movie stars or pop stars, which I found very sad, because that is a rather selfish dream.
