If the Bible or New Testament has those four icons on the cover then it is the RSV-2CE. Other publishers including Oxford and Benedict still produce the RSV-CE 1st edition. As a matter of fact Ignatius still produces it as well (it has no icons on the cover).

It seems that the 2CE was a special case granted to Ignatius by the NCCUSA, but the “official” RSV-CE is still the first edition, which is now beautifully produced by St. Benedict Press. The Oxford editions are lovely but due to some apparent errors in the database they obtained, some glosses from the 1971 NT made it into the text. It does not damage the RSV’s doctrinal value in any way (it is in fact, somewhat improved) but it isn’t the “pure” 1966 RSV-CE anymore (and I personally don’t consider the Imprimatur to still apply).

If asked as to which RSV-CE (first edition) one should get, it should be the St. Benedict, hands down. In fact, one should have both a St. Benedict edition and the Ignatius second edition. I expect my RSV concordance to arrive soon.

I almost ordered the St. Benedict Press edition since it is one of the few real leather RSV-CE Bibles out there and the photos look great, but was hesitant because of the glued binding; I would prefer stitched binding if the Bible is leather bound. But they say this glue binding is special. Can you tell the difference or does it seem like stitch binding?
