Russia and Consacration to the IH

Pope St JP2 and Sister Lucia both claim russia has been consacrated to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. How is this true?, though the the soviet union fell the EO is still in Schism, russia has a huge abortion problem and a majority of russians dont go to Church.
 
The prophecies were about Communism coming to an end. They weren’t about solving every moral problem Russia might have. Most countries these days are having big abortion problems and most of their people not going to church.
 
Well, is the Marian consecration the end of one’s relationship with Christ, or a start?
 
People undergo consecration, it does not remove their free will, they can still sin.

Because a Nation is consecrated does not mean it becomes paradise and free will ceases in that nation.

The Popes have consecrated Russia and the whole world to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, so obviously they believe it “accomplishes” something. It’s a prayer basically, an entrustment of the country to Mary and through her to God. Also, if one believes the Fatima apparition, as several Popes did, then the consecration of Russia was what Mary had asked for, and who would say “no” to Mother Mary?

I don’t think you meant to say the Popes treat God like the Wizard of Oz.

Yeah, I think the people who act like that are the ones who insist that the Consecration of Russia was not done “correctly” so we need to do it a certain other way with different prayer or whatever or Our Lady is not going to be happy.

When I point out that Sister Lucia who had the whole locution about it said that it was acceptable, they claim she was coerced.

I do rely very heavily on the judgment of the Popes to “get it right” whatever needs to be done.
 
Compared to the Soviet Regime, Russia has changed for the better in terms of freedom of religion. There are close to 1 million Catholics there. Is it a perfect system? no, but there has been some improvement in that area, so the consecration did help.
 
If I were Orthodox, I’d be very much insulted by the notion that Roman Catholics need to consecrate my country.
 
Orthodox love Mother Mary. There’s nothing offensive in consecrating Russia to her. They’re welcome to join in if they think we’re not doing it right. It’s not like we consecrated their country to Baal.
 
Yeah, but it’s kind of like saying, “You’re not doing it right. You need our help.” without being invited to help.
