Russian Brides

Hey, I’m just wondering what the Catholic Church thinks about those Russian Bride services. I’m not talking about the ones in which you get a mail-order bride, but the ones in which the women supposedly are looking for men in Western Europe or America for a better life.

I’ve looked at some of the pages, and a lot of them seem very well educated. I just wonder if they are as sweet in personality as they look. I’ve heard that they’re different from Western women. Many of them are Orthodox, too, so they’re not really a whole lot different in outward appearance from Roman Catholics. What do you think? Would it be wrong for a guy to get a bride through one of these services?

Yeah, I suppose I should not have used the word “get.” I was probably thinking of “get(ing) married” when I thought of that.

Anyhow, yeah, the sites do look a little suspect. How about other sites like Catholicmatch.com? Are those good, too. I’m a free suscription member right now, so I know how it operates, but I’d have to pay a lot of money to get full service, which would allow me to talk with other people.

It’s just that I read about Russian women and how they are doctors and lawyers, etc. That seems really cool, since I would be able to intellectually get along with them. Unfortunately I have a hard time with that when it comes to Catholic girls where I live right now (near Lancaster, PA: AKA Amish land). I don’t know why. Most of the girls I fall in love with are minister’s daughters But none of them really like me more than a friend, not because of my personality I don’t think, but because I’m Catholic and not Christian, according to them at least. Sometimes I think I’d make a better evangelical than a Catholic–at least personality wise.
