Two Orthodox Russian New-Martyrs/Confessors are probably of interest to readers of this Forum.

Holy Martyr Germogen (Dolganjev), bishop of Tobol’sk and Siberia

This bishop was drowned in a river on June 15, 1918 by having a stone tied around neck. He had given a last sermon in his Cathedral before arrest calling for end to persecution of Church.
Interestingly years before as rector of the Tiflissi Spiritual Seminary, this was bishop who expelled Iosif Djhurashvili (future Stalin) from seminary.

**Holy Confessor Luka (Vojino Jasnjesnjentskij) at his death Bishop of Simferopol’ and Crimea.
**
He was famous Kyiv physician who became priest and bishop of Tashkent in 1926. Much persecuted but was excellent physician who wrote great articles on treatment of wounds. He was imprisoned and exiled several times. At beginning of great patriotic war - he offered his services as physician in Krasnojarsk. Was excellent and awarded in 1926 the Stalin Prize. This was very amazing as he never took off his clothing showing him to be bishop.

Praise be to God! I hope I will some day be found worthy of the crown of martyrdom.

Thank you, Volodymyr, for this information - and praise be God for His glorious martyrs!

I have above written wrong - Stalin prize for Saint Bishop Luka was 1946 at end of Great War of Fatherland. Interesting for this discussion, his family Voino-Jasnjetsentskij is actually Polish Shlakhti family. Father was Polish Catolic, Mother Ukrainian Orthodox. Son became physician physician, now saint. I pray especially to him to help understand Catolics.
