ROME, SEPT. 21, 2009 (Zenit.org).- Russian Orthodox Archbishop Hilarion Alfeyev says there are so many reasons for Catholics and Orthodox to cooperate in our de-Christianized world that it is time to move past divisions and competition and exist in solidarity and mutual love.

I’m all for it. But then, I spent nearly 10 years in the Orthodox Church, so perhaps I’m a little more “orthodox” than some other Catholics. 😉

Quote from the link: “At present, the commission is reflecting on the role of the Bishop of Rome in the communion of the Church in the first millennium – before the Great Schism of 1054.”

Do you think that Rome is ready to officially renounce the additions to the “role” of the Pope of Rome since the Great Schism of 1054: Papal Infallibility and Papal Supremacy?

And do you think that Rome is ready to officially announce that the role of the Roman Catholic Pope is that of simple primacy among the other Apostolic Patriarchs based on the historical/political significance of the city of Rome?

If Rome does make those announcements officially…what reaction do you think the Catholic Laity will have?
