For those of you who haven’t seen my post in the “House fans reunite” thread, I’m posting here in regard to my favorite musician, Ryan Adams. If anybody is interested in his music after hearing his song “Desire” on last night’s episode of House (or interested in general … just because), here’s a breakdown of his albums.

Let me know if you’d like to know anything else about the man or his music and I’d be glad to help. I’d love to turn as many people into Ryan fans as possible.

(In descending chronological order … from most recent to oldest):

29 - Dark, haunting solo effort intended to “write himself out of his 20s” … Represents the death of his youth. Music is stark and stripped down. Mostly just piano, guitar, & drums. Beautiful and utterly affecting. Highlights: “Strawberry Wine” and “Starlite Diner”

JACKSONVILLE CITY NIGHTS - Straight up old school 70s country (back when country was good) … very Gram Parsons. Incredible album. Highlights: “The End,” “Peaceful Valley,” “A Kiss Before I Go,” and “Dear John” (duet w/ Norah Jones)

COLD ROSES – Double-disc album of poppier straightforward jams. His most radio-friendly album of 2005. Slight Grateful Dead influence. Highlights: “Sweet Illusions,” “Magnolia Mountain,” “How Do You Keep Love Alive?” and “Life Is Beautiful”

LOVE IS HELL – His version of sad Brit-pop. Heavily influenced by The Smiths. Somewhat depressing, yet incredibly beautiful music. Highlights: “The Shadowlands,” “English Girls Approximately,” and “I See Monsters”

ROCK N ROLL – His love letter to 80s stadium rock. He channeled his influences here (U2, Morrissey, the Cure, Nirvana, Black Flag). Highlights: “So Alive” and “Burning Photographs”

DEMOLITION – Basically a bunch of “Demos” kinda mish-mashed. But Very good. The song from last night is on this one. “Desire” … Other highlights: “Hallelujah” and “Chin Up, Cheer Up”

GOLD – Pure 70s classic rock. This album would have made him a superstar in the 70s. Many highlights, including “New York, New York,” “Firecracker,” When the Stars Go Blue,” and “La Cienega Just Smiled”

HEARTBREAKER – First solo album. He is dubbed the “Next Dylan” with this one. Incredible the whole way through. Alt-country at its finest. Highlights: “To Be Young,” “Oh My Sweet Carolina” and “Come Pick Me Up”

Those are his solo efforts to date. Otherwise, some of you might know him from his original alt-country band, Whiskeytown.

Let me know if you have any questions. He has a whole catalog of “non-released” albums he’s given fans permission to circulate. I have most of them if you would like … Just say the word. 🙂

If he ever needs an agent I think you would qualify. Over at the HOUSE site on fox.com there was a question re: the music/musician of the 2/20 episode.
