Hey Everyone,

I used to work on Capitol Hill as a congressional aide. While there are many sensational bills out there and political votes that come up, I honestly believe that every Catholic in America needs to be aware of S. 2578. It’s truly shocking legislation that the Senate will vote on whether to consider as early as today. The Senate Democrat majority feels that the Hobby Lobby decision, which allowed employers to opt out of providing contraception and abortion coverage for religious reasons is so unpopular that they can score political points. You see, the Hobby Lobby case was based upon a 1990s law, the Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA). In the 1990s, Republicans and Democrats in Congress presented President Clinton with RFRA. President Clinton signed the bill with wide bipartisan approval! Religious freedom = no brainer right?? In Hobby Lobby, the Supreme Court said that President Obama violated RFRA by attempting to force employers who have religious objections to cover contraception and abortifacients. The Senate Democrats are now pushing a bill that they believe will be very popular, exempting Obamacare from RFRA.

Here is Father Z on this

While the bill will not pass in the Republican House, we have got to stand up for our religious freedom now. Now is the time to make a stand. Every Catholic in America should be outraged that a bill exempting Obamacare from RFRA would even be considered! I hope everyone will consider at a minimum sending an email to your senators today as the USCCB as suggested, even if they are supporting the bill. A phone call is better. I promise, when the phones are lighting up, it helps get politicians’ attention.

God Bless

It is an attempt for the Democratic party to mobilize their base for the upcoming election. It should stand as an open statement to the faithful that they have no regard for their religiously held beliefs. They trod over life and religious liberty and there will still be Catholics who support such things.

Amen. I’ve been following the Hill for almost 7 years now. Seen a lot of political votes… This is the lowest I’ve ever seen.

I would like to see the Bishops to excommunicate and hold under can. 915 any catholic who votes for this bill. And its sister one that would strip all regulations from abortion clinics.
