I was invested in the Brown Scapular last February. At the time I tried to read every thing I could about it but apart from my daily devotions, I’ve forgotten a lot of the specifics. But a poster on another thread got me thinking about the Sabbatine Privilege.
Everything I’d read said that it has been rejected, even by the Carmelites and the Papal Bull where it was first talked about (Sacratissimo uti culmine) is regarded as inauthentic. I don’t think this is necessarily a traditionalist vs Vatican II thing because the detractors were, in some cases, hundreds of years before Vatican II.
I’m not trying to start an argument or promote my opinion (I don’t have a fully formed one yet), just trying to find a source that lists it as an official indulgence or lays out the Church’s official stance on it.
Thanks for any (name removed by moderator)ut you can offer,
AJ
