So I am about to be receive into the Church on Easter and I would like to hear your thoughts on this:
  1. We, the converts who are already baptised, are supposed to go to Confession before Easter. Does this mean that we go to Confession BEFORE we are received in the Church?
  2. How was your first Confession experience? I mean, were you anxious and nervous about it?

  1. Yes. Baptism is the key to all other sacraments. Meaning you already have access to the Sacrament of Penance.
  2. I made my first confession as a child. Our priest was fantastic. Admittedly, for many years I really disliked going to confession, but now I don’t mind as much. If you’re nervous, all you have to do is let the priest know. He’ll help you.

This is correct. It is so that you may enter the church with a clear conscience, and be worthy to receive communion at your first mass!

I recently came back to the Church after years away and some pretty poor choices. I was a basket of nerves prior to going in. It went much better than I imagined though. 😅 Try not to worry too much. The priest really has heard it all, and he’s not there to condemn you but to offer mercy and healing. Prayers. 🙏

You will receive some Sacraments before beibg fully received into the Church? As a baptised I am already a part of the Church although not to its fullnes (or how you say it)?
What about the non-baptised? Are they outside of the Church? I mean, you dont go to hell just because you are a non-baptised and theree is NO salvation outside the Chuch.

Admission to Heaven was made possible through Christ’s sacrifice on the cross. When Christ died, he descended to purgatory, and preached hope to the righteous Jews and non-christians who died without mortal sin.

He personal lead the non-christians to Heaven, granting them admission.

The Catholic Church, the ministry founded by Jesus, is an institution that spans from Earth to heaven. All the saints in heaven are members of the church!

If a non-christian goes to heaven, he held some heroic virtue in his heart. All who gain admission to heaven are saved through Christ’s ministry, the Church. There is thus, by definition, no salvation outside the church.

For me it was far worse to prepare for my first confession than actually confessing. When I go to Confession I have accepted that I sin and am in need of Gods mercy. When you tell the priest it is your first confession he will make sure you will have the time you need. Call a priest and make an appointment as first confessions usually take longer than someone who confessed every month. Some converts have 50-70 years of sins to confess.

Like I say to most people going to their first Confession is to plan to do something nice after like buying or picking some flowers for the statue of the Blessed Mother in church, go visit a sick or elderly neighbour or relative.

There are several posts regarding first confession. You might want to look into them.

The Priest I talked to about this just gave the ussual time schedule for confession.

  1. Yes, and please visit with your RCIA leaders, this is all built into the curriculum. They have it planned at a specific time for you. I always do a role play to teach them how to confess beforehand.
  2. It was great, very cathartic and liberating. My mom took me to the rectory and the priest and I went into his bedroom. Obviously that sort of thing wouldn’t fly today!
I will pray as you begin your final preparations to enter the Church Jesus himself started,
Deacon Christopher
