If you are not married but are living in a sexual relationship with another person, you should not be receiving Holy Communion.

number one, we know absolutely nothing about the spiritual condition of other people in church with us, whether they receive communion or not. that is known only to God and to their confessors.

number two, morality is the same for everyone, offenses against morality carry their own penalty and it is the same for everyone. No one who is having sex outside their valid marriage is living in a state of grace. the solution is simple, stop the sin, confess and return to the state of grace, and return to the sacraments. thereby you will gain the strength to remain chaste, and to make whatever long term changes in your lifestyle are necessary to remain in communion with God and his Church.

Hi veronicah,
it may be that you were drawn to this forum, because Christ is calling you and your SO, toward Him and He wants you, to open yourself up, to become a disciple.

There are things you can do, to help to move your relationship toward God, where He will transform your life forever.

First off, begin praying. If you can, speak to your SO about your intentions and ask him to join you.

Get a Bible, and with an open heart to the Holy Spirit, begin to read it as prayer. Ask God to give you both faith, through Jesus Christ.

Do this and allow God to guide you to where He wants you.

The answers you’re looking for here, will come to you in a way that none of us could give you.

God Bless
Jim
