Sacred Heart,Immaculate Heart?

This is one of those questions that has crossed my mind over the past several months when I lay in bed at night but never remember to ask anyone.

I don’t know if I am going to ask this question right but here goes:
Where does the emphasis on Jesus’ Sacred Heart and Mary’s Immaculate Heart come into Catholic tradition?

Does anyone know what I am trying to ask? I feel like there is something so obvious right in front of me and can only imagine that I will go:doh2: “Doh”.

The question made sense to me (I hope!). Basically, you’re asking when this practice of devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary originated, right?
