I am going to begin this thread with a little known society of apostolic life known as the Oblates of St. Francis de Sales. They are like the active, male counterpart of the Visitation nuns. There are also Oblate *Sisters *of St. Francis de Sales.

However, the Oblate priests have great need for vocations. We have three at our church, and the 80 year-old keeps going. The one next to him in age is in his 70s. Not sure about the pastor, but I know he’s over 50.

The Oblates were founded by Blessed Louis Brisson, OSFS, after a Visitation nun had a vision, and kept insisting (for about 10 years) that he be the founder. He kept putting her off until Our Lord Himself appeared and said to follow her word.

Vatican II said that the laity were to embrace the gentle Salesian spirituality, and follow Sts. Teresa & John for interior prayer. DeSales had anticipated, by several hundred years, spirituality for the laity.
