I’d like to know your opinion of Sacred Heart Major Seminary in Detroit: good, bad, or indfferent. I particularly value comments based on first-hand experience.

In general, is Sacred Heart a strong, orthodox seminary, or is it filled with problems and abuses? What is the staff like? Is the seminary improving (tending towards orthodox) or is it getting worse?

Any comments would be appreciated.

It’s a mixed bag. They were getting striaghtened out a bit when the former rector (who’s now a bishop in Oakland) was there. But it still has it’s problems resulting from the liberal prysbyterate in the diocese and the “hangers on” with the faculty. They just axed a very good music director recently due to complaints from those in the diocese, for instance. He wasn’t ideological or anything but, apparently, he was just too straight laced for those with their own agendas. It’s best to be a non-contrversial go along to get along type there. On the whole, Sacred Heart is probably half decent, but not ideal.
