There is no need for despair. Allah is the most merciful, the best Judge and the MOST Just. As Muslims, we are convinced of that…and the Quran addressed this point of being in despair or depressed. If I may interject here, in Islam you never really know if you are forgiven, it is at Allah’s whim? Don’t they call that fatalistic thinking? and sort of depressing and reason for despair, if you ask me.
“…Certainly no one despairs of Allahs Mercy, except the people who disbelieve.” (Chapter #12, Verse #87)
(Ibrahim (Abraham)) said: “And who despairs of the Mercy of his Lord except those who are astray?” (Chapter #15, Verse #56)
On the point of forgiveness…if you fullfill the rules of repentence…than you are forgiven…Allah promises us that.
Say: "O Ibadee (My slaves) who have transgressed against themselves (by committing evil deeds and sins)! despair not of the Mercy of Allah, verily Allah forgives all sins. Truly, He is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful. (Chapter #39, Verse #53)
To add, i have never met a practicing Muslim who is in this state of despair…subhanAllah, a Muslim, when He thinks about his Lord…he is full of Hope.
On the other hand…we are not guranteed paradise…for if we were…than what is the point of us being on earth?
