Parents of the Virgin Mary. Little is known about the parents of Our Lady. Their story is told in the apocryphal Gospel of James but neither are mentioned in Holy Scripture.

The early cult of Joachim was recorded in the East with images on the columns of St Marks in Venice. Later, Giotto painted Joachim and Ann in the Scrovegni Chapel in Padua.

They were also depicted together in stained glass at Great Malvern Priory, Hereford, Worcester and elsewhere (according to the Oxford Dictionary of Saints). Joachim is said to be buried in Jerusalem.

Thank you, Rob, for bringing to mind that this is the day of my name Saint Ann and her husband Joachim, and thanks for the picture of the beautiful icon. I am going to pray to Saints Ann and Joachim today, especially that they will intercede to keep my husband safe and well, and that I may find healing and relief from my painful foot condition. And of course, I will pray to them for the intentions of everyone here.
 
Since I am a grandfather I can claim Joachim too.

I remember visiting the parish church named after him near the massive shrine of St Anne in Quebec.
