Saint John Berchmans is the patron saint of altar servers.
He lived from 1599 to 1621. He was born in the city of Diestnature, Belgium.
When John was about seven years old, he served two or three Masses a day.
John was a Jesuit seminarian. He was canonized in 1888.

His body is enshrined under an altar in the Church of Saint Ignazio in Rome. In the altar across from him is enshrined the body of Saint Aloysius Gonzaga and nearby is Saint Robert Bellarmine. It is a beautiful church remarkable for its architecture, its occasional concerts…and the special saints who lived there and sanctified it by their lives and their deaths.

Saint John Berchmans is indeed a remarkable saint. Thank you for reminding us of him today.
