Has anyone seen the purple Saint Joseph Scapular on the website of the Rose Scapular Company?

It looks nice, but the image attached is quite different from the description given in the Catholic Encyclopedia and elsewhere. Does this new Scapular from Rose Scapular Co. qualify as a valid and improved Saint Joseph Scapular?

Also, can any priest enroll/invest one in the Saint Joseph Scapular?

No, sorry.

I can’t include links in posts

Please Google “Rose Scapular”

Some of the scapulars on Rose Scapular site with pictures of St. Joseph are simply brown scapulars with a picture of St. Joseph. This is okay because a brown scapular can have any devotional picture or no picture on it, but those aren’t the traditional “St. Joseph Scapular”, they’re brown scapulars which are different.

I presume by “St. Joseph Scapular” you mean this one:

If you want to follow the traditional Pope Leo XIII version of the St. Joseph Scapular, then the purple and gold coloring is correct, but the scapular should have a picture of the papal coat of arms on the back square, not a second picture of St. Joseph holding the Child Jesus. See the picture here for the traditional version:

So yes, I agree that this “St. Joseph Scapular” from Rose Scapular doesn’t look right and I wouldn’t buy it.

You can get one that looks “right” here:

By the way, the information about indulgences/ blessings on both those sites is wrong IMHO. The St. Joseph Scapular is not mentioned in the current Manual of Indulgences, and I don’t know whether the original grant of indulgence to the Capuchin order is still in force. You’d have to ask somebody from the Capuchins. Also, the idea of getting 432 indulgences per day, or whatever is not the way we calculate indulgences today. You either get a partial indulgence or a plenary indulgence per day, and that’s it. Also, the idea that you can’t take off a scapular to bathe without losing the blessings/ protection is superstitious and wrong. Scapulars are supposed to be like garments, and we don’t bathe in our garments. You can take it off and still have St. Joseph protecting you just fine or whatever as long as you have the devotion to him in your heart.

Thanks. I’ve had a few of the more traditional Saint Joseph Purple Scapulars, but the were all so flimsy.

Rose makes a superior product. However, I don’t know why they changed the design in this instance

You might ask the Capuchins if the official requirements of the scapular have changed. Maybe they don’t require the pictures to be exact any more. I know the Brown Scapular doesn’t need to be made out of wool any more like it used to.

I can’t find a page by the Capuchins anywhere talking about this scapular so you’d have to ask them.

I’m looking for a high quality brown scapular. Our Lady of Mt. Carmel. I saw some recently posted reviews on Amazon regarding Rose Scapular Co. that were claiming the quality went down on their brown scapulars. Have you purchased one recently? Are they still making them with heavy reinforcing stitching around the perimeter?
