I think we can all relate to stories like the life of Saint Aquilia of Byblos ( today’s Lebanon ), a Maronite Saint of the third century who devoted much of her young life ( 12-13 years ) to converting her circle of childhood friends to Christianity. For this she suffered martyrdom under Emperor Diocletian. A truely inspiring story. maroniteinstitute.org/MARI/JMS/april99/Aquilina_the_Martyr_Saint.htm
It makes one think how we missed such opportunities in our own young lives, when instead of leading our companions to Christ and Sanctity by our actions and conversation, we may have been leading them into lives of selfishness and even sin. It occurred to me that we need to bring the lives of these young heroes before our own young people. Perhaps it will inspire them to similar lives of " setting the example " to follow in holiness.
I can think of a number of such Saints who can inspire your young. Saints like, St. Agnes of Rome and St. Maria Gioretti, stars of purity and chastity, Blessed Pier Giogio Frassati, a model of charity, St. Therese of Liisieux, model of humility and love, St. Bakhita of Sudan, model of suffering and perserverance, St. Dominic Savio, " Death but not sin. " And you must have your own favorite.
Some books we can put in the hands of the young are: Saints for Young Readers for Every Day ( Vols I and 2 ), Ablaze, Stories of Daring Teen Saints, St. Bakhita of Sudan, Forever Free, St. Therese of Lisieux, The Way of Love.
Perhaps you have some favorites. Inspire your children to lead their companions to Heaven, to shun worldy values and life styles, to become children of purity and charity, examles to be followed.
