Salt Lake OKs gay rights laws with Mormon backing

SALT LAKE CITY — The Mormon church for the first time has announced its support of gay rights legislation, an endorsement that helped gain unanimous approval for Salt Lake city laws banning discrimination against gays in housing and employment.

I read a similar article in the Salt Lake Tribune.

It mentioned that the ordinances had to deal with housing and employment.

I think the title of the thread is a little misleading.

'Hours after the LDS Church announced its support Tuesday night of proposed Salt Lake City ordinances aimed at protecting gay and transgender residents from discrimination in housing and employment, the City Council unanimously approved the measures.

“The church supports these ordinances,” spokesman Michael Otterson told the council, “because they are fair and reasonable and do not do violence to the institution of marriage.”

Everyone deserves a roof over their head, and a way to pay for it.

My LDS co-worker read this & said that it is a “LIE”!!!

They support for Gays to be given the same “Human Rights” that every human should have…the right to a job, the right to a home, etc.
They accept Gays into their Church that practice Celibacy.
They consider the Homosexual Act to be a sin and therefore does not condon the act, nor Gay “Marriage”.
They do support Gays as individuals and children of the Heavenly Father.

How is that inconsistent with what is said in the article??
 
not sure what’s so unusual about this, more over I would certainly vote for this bill personally. I’m also against gay marriage.

All my co-worker read was the Title of this thread. She did not want to read the article after reading the Title of this thread. She just asked that I write what I wrote. So I did. 🤷
