At Abtei Mariawald (trappist) they sing Salve Regina at Completorium even though it’s Lent. What do the liturgical books say about it?

It is the Trappist and Cistercian tradition since over 500 years. That’s what the Abbott will tell you.

They use the Salve Regina year round at Compline. They also have their own version, a variation on the solemn tone. They don’t use the simple tone.

There are many liturgical variations within religious orders.

Have you asked the Abbot why they do this?
you just don’t talk with him unless you really have to.

What brevary do they use?

They have their own approved variations, some of which they share with Benedictines including the original Benedictine schema. It is up to each individual community to decide which one to use.
